๐๏ธ Museo Sugbo โ Cebuโs provincial museum has a rich history! Originally built in 1871 as the Cรกrcel de Cebรบ (provincial jail) using coral stone blocks, it served as a prison for over 130 years.
- Spanish era: held political prisoners and rebels
- American period: jailed common criminals
- Japanese occupation (WWII): prison for guerrillas and suspected resistance fighters
In 2008, it was transformed into Museo Sugbo, showcasing Cebuโs heritage through galleries of pre-colonial artifacts, Spanish relics, WWII memorabilia, political history, and Cebuano culture.
Today, it stands as a historical and cultural treasure, reflecting Cebuโs journey from the past to the present. โจ
